Indulging my Cloth Problem
I have a well documented cloth problem. By which I mean, not actually well documented, just really a chaotic pile of cloth and receipts only recently placed into former amazon shipping boxes that frequently tests the stability of my marriage.
But I digress.
When whimsy depression strikes me, I am fond of frequenting the fabric district in Tokyo, to be found in nippori. By far the largest and most varied fabric store in nippori, is nippori tomato, which I visited this Friday.
I do also purchase fabric online for specialty cloth or fabrics not found in nippori. My most recent purchase was a lovely green, linen velvet and a silver georgette velvet. At nippori, I picked up this pink silk as a lining fabric.

The Plan
With the linen velvet and lining, I plan to sew a velvet blazer. I have never sewn a blazer before, so some studying and research is in order. My current plan is to buy a blazer pattern, or find a book from the public library for some basic construction advice. The pink silk is a stiffer fabric, as you can tell from the drape. I wasn’t able to identify the type of silk from the label.
Before starting this project, I plan to finalize my dress form with a more accurate cover made to my dimensions. Although I padded the dress form, I suspect it is still a bit short in torso.
With the silver georgette, I think a simple dress with some nice drapery would be ideal. I am toying with the idea of a low cowl on the back, with a shorter cowl on the front to practice the pattern drafting. Alternatively, or in addition, I am considering a bias dress. We shall see how that goes.

This cowl design is from Pattern Magic Vol. 2. I own volume 1, and occasionally find the others volumes at the library, but I decided to put volume 2 on the Christmas list this year ;).
Let’s see when I can get to these.
